Beyond the Scoreboard: Sports, Philanthropy, and Building Lasting Legacies

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, Chief Executive Officer, The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges joined the Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1998 and has been its CEO since 2007. He has transformed the Club into one of the world’s leading racing organisations and leading charity donors. Internationally, he is the Chair of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities and the Asian Racing Federation. He is also Vice-President of the International Horse Sports Confederation. Locally, he is Chairman of the Hong Kong Management Association and he sits on the boards of the Community Chest and the Institute of Philanthropy Limited. He also served on the board for the 2008 Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong. A graduate from the University of Cologne, he also holds an honorary doctorate from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Yao Ming, Founder of Yao Foundation; Former Chairman of Chinese Basketball Association; NBA All-Star

NBA legend Yao Ming, Hall of Famer of Naismith and FIBA, was the NBA’s first foreign No.1 pick and an 8-time All-Star starter, with his jersey retired by the Rockets. He boosted the NBA’s China reach and bridged global audiences. Founder of YAO Foundation (2008), he focuses on sports charity for underprivileged kids. As CBA President (2017-2024), he drove league modernization and youth/women’s basketball development. He also leads cross-border ventures in sports, lifestyle and business, integrating sports resources with commercial innovation for cultural and economic value.

William Heinecke, Founder and Chairman, Minor International PCL

William E. Heinecke is the Founder and Chairman of Minor International, a global hospitality, restaurant, and lifestyle company. His entrepreneurial journey began nearly 60 years ago, transforming a small venture in Thailand into an international group. Today, Minor International operates over 650 hotels in over 65 countries worldwide and is one of Asia’s largest restaurant groups, with more than 2,700 restaurant outlets across 25 countries. Under his leadership, the company expanded through strategic investments and acquisitions, including brands such as NH Hotels, Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, and Oaks Hotels & Resorts. Mr. Heinecke has received numerous international recognitions, including the HICAP Lifetime Achievement Award and HOTELS Magazine’s Corporate Hotelier of the World. Today, as Chairman, he focuses on long-term strategy, philanthropy, aviation, and his passion for classic automobiles.

Irene Lee, Chairman, Hysan Development Company Limited

Irene Lee is the Chairman of Hysan Development Limited, an independent director of Alibaba Group Holding Limited and serves as a member of the board of trustees of the Better Hong Kong Foundation.

Previously, Ms. Lee held senior positions in investment banking and funds management at a number of international financial institutions and she was on the board of many listed and unlisted companies in Hong Kong, Singapore, UK and Australia.

Irene received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College, United States of America, and is a Barrister-at-Law in England and Wales and a member of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, United Kingdom. She was awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in November 2022.

François Pictet, Managing Partner, Pictet Group

François Pictet has been a Managing Partner of the Pictet Group since 2022 and coheads Pictet Wealth Management.

Before being named Managing Partner, François was Head of the Pictet Investment Office, the ultra-high-net-worth investment arm of Pictet Wealth Management.

Prior to joining Pictet in 2015, he worked at the private equity firm AEA Investors in London. Prior to that he was in M&A advisory at Credit Suisse in Zurich and at two non-governmental organizations active in the fields of microfinance and socially responsible investing.

François holds a Master degree of Advanced Studies in Business Law from the University of Geneva and Lausanne.

Ronald Lee, Head, Private Wealth Management, Asia Pacific, Goldman Sachs 

Ron is head of Private Wealth Management and co-head of the Client Solutions Group within Goldman Sachs Asset Management in Asia Pacific. He is a member of the Asia Pacific Management Committee. Ron is co-chair of the Asset & Wealth Management Inclusion and Diversity Committee (IDC), and is also a member of the Global IDC.

Ron was previously in the Investment Banking Division from 2001 to 2011, where his responsibilities included head of the investment banking business in Hong Kong, head of the financial sponsors practice and co-head of the Industrials Group. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1998 in the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities Division and was named managing director in 2003 and partner in 2006.

Prior to joining the firm, Ron worked in the Corporate Finance and Capital Markets Departments at JPMorgan in New York, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Ron earned a BA in History and Literature from Harvard College.

Maximilian Kaufmann, Representative of Major Shareholder of Leica Camera AG

Maximilian Kaufmann is a German-born professional based in Austria with a background in architecture and a growing role in his family’s entrepreneurial legacy. He studied architecture at the University of Hong Kong and worked in architectural offices in Austria, where he developed a strong interest in design, spatial thinking, and visual language. Architecture also shaped his appreciation for photography and the cultural significance of Leica. For the past year, Maximilian has been working in the family holding company, focusing on real estate while preparing for a future role connected to Leica. During this time, he played a key role in developing the family governance framework and structuring next-generation responsibilities. Looking ahead, he aims to contribute to the long-term development of the family business, with particular emphasis on the careful stewardship and direction of the Leica brand.

Wesley Ng, CEO and Co-founder, CASETiFY

Wesley Ng is the CEO and Co-Founder of CASETiFY, a global lifestyle brand that blends technology, design, and culture. Bootstrapped in 2011, Wesley has grown CASETiFY into a worldwide leader, celebrated for its collaborations with iconic brands, renowned artists, and tastemakers. Under his leadership, the brand has expanded beyond tech accessories into lifestyle categories like travel, while championing sustainability through initiatives like re/CASETiFY, which focuses on reducing waste and promoting environmental responsibility.

Born in Hong Kong and educated in Australia, Wesley was honored with the Outstanding Entrepreneurial Alumnus award in 2022 from Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He also supports Hong Kong’s creative industries as a Member of the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Committee under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.

Michael Wilding, Group Chief Operating Officer, ZURU Group

Michael Wilding is the Group Chief Operating Officer at the ZURU Group, one of the fastest-growing consumer goods and technology companies founded by New Zealand brothers Nick and Mat Mowbray. What began in 2003 with a $20,000 loan and a small factory in China has grown into a global powerhouse operating across toys, construction technology and consumer brands spanning beauty, baby, pet care, confectionery and homecare. With billions in revenue, thousands of employees across 30+ locations and products sold in more than 157 markets, ZURU is known for bold innovation, speed, scale and disruptive marketing that redefines categories for modern consumers.

Previously, Michael spent 15 years as CEO of the Peabody Family Office, where he built the global family office and a 1,000-year multi-generational structure, establishing governance, investment advisory boards and partnerships overseeing diversified global investments and operating businesses.

Sjoerd Leenart, CEO Asia Pacific, JP Morgan

Sjoerd Leenart is CEO and Head of Banking for J.P. Morgan in Asia Pacific, leading the strategy and oversight across 17 markets, including the Banking business in region. He chairs the Asia Pacific Management Committee and is member of the firm’s Global Commercial & Investment Bank Management Team.
 
Previously, Sjoerd was global head of Corporate Banking, serving the firm’s largest corporate and financial institution clients. Over three decades at J.P. Morgan, he has led the European High Grade Bond Syndicate and Debt Capital Markets teams, and headed the CEEMEA Debt Capital Markets and Sales & Derivatives Marketing teams. He was appointed Senior Country Officer for MENA in 2011 and later became Regional Head of CEEMEA.

Qiu Heng, CMO, AgiBot

Qiu Heng is Chief Marketing Officer at AGIBOT, a leader in general-purpose humanoid and quadruped robots. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and a master’s degree in Electronic Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan. Qiu has nearly 20 years of global experience at Huawei, including serving as CMO and Global Marketing President of Huawei Enterprise Business Group, and President of Wireless Marketing. He has been a keynote speaker at Mobile World Congress (MWC) and major global ICT and digital transformation summits. Beyond tech, he is officially recognized as China’s No.001 Commercial Astronaut and served as Executive Producer of the world’s first large‑scale robot gala AGIBOT NIGHT.

Ren Feng, Co-CEO and CSO, Insilico Medicine

Dr. Ren Feng received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University in 2007. He has over 15 years of experience in innovative drug research and development at multinational pharmaceutical companies. Prior to Insilico, Dr. Ren worked at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where he served as Director of Medicinal Chemistry, and Sr. VP at Medicilon. In 2021, Dr. Ren joined Insilico, under his leadership, the Insilico R&D team successfully developed 22 pre-clinical candidate compounds, with 10 molecules receiving IND clearance. Dr. Ren also played a pivotal role in driving four out-licensing agreements for proprietary pipelines and forging numerous strategic R&D collaborations, collectively valued at over $3.5 billion. Dr. Ren has published more than 90 peer-reviewed papers and holds over 150 patents.

Liu Xing, Partner, HongShan Capital Group

Liu Xing is a senior partner at HongShan Capital Group (HSG), where he has worked since 2007. He focuses on investing in technology and consumer sectors across different stages and was involved in HongShan’s investments in Alibaba, JD.com, Vipshop, ZTO Express, Beike, XPeng, Iluvatar, Amer Sports, Aridge, Marshall, Klook, SmartMore and many other industry-leading companies. He currently serves on the boards of several public and private companies. Prior to joining HongShan, he had worked at Merrill Lynch (Asia), Xerox and a Silicon Valley enterprise software start-up company in investment banking, technology and product R&D, and consulting functions. He has been recognized as a Top 100 Best Investors by Forbes China and other media outlets for many years and is a member of The Wharton School’s Executive Board for Asia. Mr. Liu received his MBA degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and completed Harvard Business School’s AMP program. He received two M.S. degrees from Syracuse University and a B.S. degree from Fudan University.
